Charting The Voice Actors

44Jishai Evers has created voice-cast charts for The Simpsons and South Park. It’s incredible to see the number of characters handled by some of these folks. Dan Castellaneta does 26 voices. Trey Parker? 32! It’s a testament to these casts’ talent that not only is each character’s voice funny, they’re instantly identifiable. Click through for the full-size charts. Continue reading

‘The Simpsons’ Showrunner Reveals How The Show Should End

000The Simpsons‘ showrunner, Al Jean, told CNN what he believes is the ideal way to end the series: Loop it back around the show’s beginning!

“There is an ending I’ve always had in mind, which was, I thought it would be cool if in the last episode they’re getting ready to go to a Christmas pageant, and they go to the Christmas pageant that opens up the first episode, Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire, so the entire series is a loop with no end. That would be my way of concluding the run, but nobody has asked me for it yet.”

Matt Groening’s Animation Inspiration

0“As a child I loved animation and always wanted to try it. I remember watching Disney’s 101 Dalmatians and the scene of the puppies watching television. I was amazed at that image, the kind you can only get with animation and I knew that I wanted to do the same kind of things myself some day.”

Coming Soon: A LEGO ‘Simpsons’ Episode!

1125On January 8, the world witnessed the unveiling of The Simpsons House LEGO set.

On Feb. 7, The LEGO Movie was released to critical and financial success, taking in almost $200 million worldwide in its first two weeks.

On May 4, these two tangentially related news items will collide when FOX airs its first episode of The Simpsons done entirely in LEGO! The episode, Brick Like Me, revolves around Homer waking up in a world made of LEGO. He then must “put together” how he got there and how to get home. Sounds fun!

The Simpsons Go Ghibli!

The Simpsons has been around so long that it’s kinda hard to get too excited by it anymore. That said, when the show does wow, it’s an all-caps WOW.

This strange and surreal homage to Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli is one such WOW. While I’ve no doubt that it is entirely unnecessary to the plot of whatever episode it airs in, that only makes me adore it all the more. Such tangents and tributes are a gift, and the most memorable gifts are rarely the stuff of logic, but of love.
