Top 5: Disney/Horror Mash-Ups

aaIt’s Halloween! Time for costumes and candy and killing time at work by watching horror movie mash-ups. Oh, and have I got a creepy collection to share with YOU.

Scared? You needn’t be. I’d never hurt someone as sweet and innocent as you. You can relax — really. This is going to be fun. Now I want you to sit back in your ergonomic office chair, pull out that bag of last year’s candy corns, and enjoy these five spine-tingling Disney/horror blends…

IF YOU DARE!!!

5. Toy Story + Rob Zombie’s Halloween

This one lacks a cohesive narrative, but the synching of the Halloween trailer’s audio and the original Toy Story visuals is pretty impressive. And that doll head on the erector set? That NEVER fails to freak me out.

4. Wall-E + Jaws

The endless opening word crawls will tempt you to turn this off, but once the original narration from Jaws‘ trailer kicks in — look out! It gets GOOD.

3. Cinderella + Carrie

Walt Disney’s misunderstood maiden meets Steven King’s troubled teen. The results are suitably creepy and colorful. This marvelous mash-up has an effortless feel that hides its pitch-perfect editing. Kudos to its creator!

2. Beauty and the Beast + Sleeping Beauty + The Hunchback of Notre Dame, etc…

This one relies solely on Disney films for its chills and thrills. Still, the way that rotem270691 cuts it all together, you’d never know it.

Side-note: Back when Disney was rushing out their crappy, straight-to-DVD sequels, THIS is the sort of thing they should’ve been coming up with. I know I would’ve watched! Instead, we got a bunch of tepid retellings that NEVER came close to matching the originals. Oh, well. No worries. Back when Lasseter took over Disney animation, he promised an end to the shoddy sequels. When was that? Um…I’m not exactly sure. I think it was a year or two before Cars 2, Monsters U and the announcement for Finding Dory.

1. Scary Poppins

The CLASSIC blending of Disney and horror. It’s been seven years since this hit the net, and no one has been able to top it yet. So simple, so succinct — why, it’s practically perfect in every way. I’ve probably watched this once or twice a year since its debut, and its NEVER failed to make me smile.

Congratulations, Chris Rule and Nick Eckert — you’ve created a Halloween perennial!
